We would like to announce that we are looking to put together a meeting for the end of the year. We are still nailing down the final details and dates, however we want to let you know we are hoping to have a meeting in Phoenix, AZ, either Saturday November 23rd or Saturday December 7th. More news to come on that as we continue to plan for the meeting. We are also still looking for speakers for the meeting, so if you know anyone or have any input on specific topics you would like to see, please reply and let us know.

We are also looking for help with the Secretary position on the board. Gareth Davis has resigned from the position, but is still an active volunteer in helping us plan for the meeting and upcoming events. However, we still are looking for volunteers for the meeting and secretarial duties. Please reply if you are interested or even are thinking about volunteering, we would be happy to include those interested in the process.

Additionally, we realize that we have had some delay, but we are working to get number of webinars to you all as members. For this though, we need more information such that our webinar partners can verify that only our members are logging in and that you get the appropriate credit. For this we need to collect some information and will be sending out a survey in the next week to collect that information. By-Laws/ Membership Committee: This combined Committee shall review the Bylaws on an annual basis, receive recommendations for revisions and submit the recommendations for amendments to the Executive Board.This Committee shall email membership renewal notices, update the membership list quarterly,email out membership cards and remit dues checks to the Treasurer of the Society on a monthly basis.

News Editor/ Historian: The Newsletter Editor shall be responsible for the publication onto the ASH website and email distribution of the Society’s newsletter. The newsletter shall be published quarterly in the months of March, June, September and December. The Newsletter Editor shall perform all duties incumbent upon the office and other such duties as assigned by the President. As the Historian you will work with the Secretary and be responsible for and will keep all Society records of historical nature.

Full-time Grossing Tech/Histotechnician Position in Scottsdale at Affiliated Laboratories

Affiliated Laboratories in Scottsdale has the following position available:

Grossing Technician/Histotechnician— Full Time, Shift-Day Shift. Experience in grossing and/or Histology preferred, but willing to train. Minimum Qualifications and Responsibilities:

  1. Minimum of A.S. degree, with a minimum of 24 science credits.
  2. Meets all requirements as outlined in CLIA CFR 493.1489
  3. Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for Histologic processing, according to policies and procedures.
  4. Assure appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling
  5. Describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, ensuring accurate gross description.
  6. Capable of grossing moderate complexity specimens under direct and indirect supervision.
  7. May be trained to perform basic Histology functions (i.e. embedding, microtomy, special stains) if personnel meet all requirements.
  8. Ensure all safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards are met.
  9. Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations.
  10. Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.

Medical Dermatology Specialists (MDS) is seeking a full-time histotechnician to join our growing practice and work with our recently hired board-certified dermatologist/fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic surgeon. The primary job responsibilities include cryo-sectioning of dermatologic tissue from Mohs surgery, routine preventative maintenance of Mohs laboratory equipment, Mohs lab supply audits, and ensuring quality assurance and compliance with laboratory regulations and requirements. Mohs experience and ASCP certification are preferred, but not required.

MDS is currently building a new, dedicated Mohs suite and laboratory, which will be fully integrated into the current private practice. The individual will contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients by accurately processing surgical pathology specimens. Responsibilities may include processing, embedding and microtomy of all surgical tissues; cryotomy and frozen section staining; routine H&E and special staining; high complexity testing such as immunohistochemistry; gross examination/tissue processing of surgical biopsies; equipment maintenance and record retention; training staff; knowledge of pathology Laboratory Information System and other duties as assigned. The position may involve travel between the Scottsdale and Phoenix campuses.

Furthermore may perform high volume automated immunohistochemical (IHC) staining. The individual must demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills as well as knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. The ability to assess data reflective of the patients' status and age-specific needs is also required. May be responsible for handling chemicals and/or reagents including chemical hazardous waste materials.

Associate of Science degree from an accredited college/university in histology, biology or having emphasized anatomical, biological, and chemical science; or meet CLIA-88 regulations (42CFR493.1487 through 1491) for high complexity testing and one (1) year histology experience; or successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histology Program. Two years as certified HT (ASCP) preferred. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem solving skills. Demonstrated good judgment when dealing with a variety of procedural and technical issues.
